Yoshio Markino 1869-1956


In a recent search for books on London, I came across one called The Colour of London, published in 1907 by the Japanese artist Yoshio Markino.  I had never heard of Markino before, who apparently spent much of his life in London.


Markino's book is full of his delightful paintings of Edwardian London.  The style, not surpisingly, is similar to Japanse prints and watercolours of the time, giving a different feel from the usual images of London.
